There are places you visit for a short while, but leave with the thought of returning as soon as possible. Supraśl – a spa town tucked away in the heart of the Knyszyn Forest – is just such a place. This unique town, with a history stretching back over 500 years, is where nature meets
culture, history intertwines with everyday life, and relaxation takes on a whole new meaning.

Surrounded by vast forests, bisected by a picturesque river and full of charming little streets, Supraśl invites you to relax far from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is the perfect place to breathe in the fresh air, go for a walk along forest paths, cycle through the green countryside or simply sit by the river and savour the moment. The primeval forest and the town’s
surroundings – including the picturesque Supraśl Biodiversity Trail and the Wiktor Wołkow Boulevards – are ideal for cycling, walking, Nordic walking, running and canoeing down the River Supraśl. Winter sports enthusiasts will also find plenty to enjoy – cross-country skiing, sleigh rides through the primeval forest, sauna sessions and winter swimming are just some of the activities Supraśl encourages. This health resort surprises visitors at every turn of the year and ensures there’s never a dull moment.

Supraśl has retained the character of a small, historic town. Wooden houses, historic churches and other historic buildings, together with its quiet streets, create an atmosphere that is hard to find in large holiday resorts. No wonder it is often chosen as a location for film shoots. It was here that scenes were filmed for productions such as the ‘U Pana Boga’ film series, directed by Jacek Bromski, and the TV series ‘Blondynka’. It’s highly likely that you’re familiar with Supraśl, even though you’ve never actually been there – and what’s more, until now you didn’t even know it existed.

This is a place with a remarkable heritage. The historic Monastery of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Mother of God, the Icon Museum, Buchholtz Palace, the timber-framed architecture and the historic streets all tell the story of a town where different cultures and traditions have intertwined for centuries. Art and theatre lovers will find the unique Wierszalin Theatre here; enthusiasts of local history will discover the Suprasl Treasury, the Museum of Printing and Papermaking, the Old Rectory, whilst nature lovers will enjoy the European Bison Show Farm in Kopna Góra, along with the nearby 1863 Insurgents’ Arboretum, the Indian Village or one of the horse stud farms.

Gourmets can look forward to the unique cuisine of Podlasie – aromatic regional specialities,
including the famous babka and potato sausage, which, every year in the middle of the summer holidays, draws crowds to the World Championships in Baking Babka and Potato Sausage.

Supraśl doesn’t set the pace – it lets you find your own. Families, couples and solo travellers
will appreciate the intimate atmosphere of this little town, where everyone can find their own way to enjoy a relaxing break.
